Class of 2027 running back picks the Buffaloes over Arkansas, Memphis, and Minnesota after a whirlwind recruitment
Mississippi just sent one of its top young backs out west. Kylan Bobo, the three-star running back out of Tupelo High School, announced his commitment to Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes on Wednesday, closing the book on a recruitment that had SEC and Big 12 programs chasing him all summer.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Bobo made it official on the Rivals YouTube channel, choosing Colorado over Arkansas and Memphis, with Minnesota also among his four finalists earlier in the process. It capped a recruitment that saw him rack up more than 30 offers.
The Numbers That Got Everybody’s Attention
Bobo’s junior season at Tupelo is what turned him into a national name. He carried the ball 197 times for 1,726 yards and 28 touchdowns, averaging a staggering 8.9 yards per carry, while also chipping in seven catches for 106 yards and another score through the air. He’s ranked as the No. 64 running back nationally in the 2027 class, per the 247Sports Composite.
Why Colorado Won Out
Bobo took his official visit to Boulder the weekend of June 12 and, by his own account, that trip sealed it. “This official visit was big,” he said. “It pushed Colorado to the top because of the hospitality they showed me. It was so great.” He’d already built strong relationships with the coaching staff dating back to Colorado’s initial offer in March, singling out running backs coach Mack, along with Coach Joc and Coach Marion, for how hard and how consistently they recruited him.
And then there’s the pitch that matters most to any kid getting recruited by a living legend: “I love Coach Sanders because it’s going to be a blessing to get coached by a legend who’s done everything in the game,” Bobo said.
New offensive coordinator Brennan Marion’s “Go-Go” scheme — known for its playmaker-driven, multi-back looks — also gave Colorado a real system-fit argument that Arkansas and Memphis couldn’t fully match.
What It Means for the Class
Bobo becomes Colorado’s second running back commit of the 2027 cycle, filling a spot that briefly opened up after four-star Steven Alexis flipped to Illinois in June. With Bobo now in the fold, Colorado’s 2027 class climbs to 19 commitments and sits among the better classes in the Big 12 nationally.
For Tupelo and for Mississippi high school football, it’s another data point in a trend worth watching: the state continues to produce backfield talent that Power Conference programs are willing to fight hard for — and in this case, a five-star head coach flew all the way to Boulder to close the deal.
