Mississippi volleyball programs officially get the green light soon — MHSAA practice begins July 20 for every classification, with scrimmages set for July 25 and the first official games kicking off July 31. That’s a fast turnaround, and it means teams across the state are already deep into summer workouts trying to figure out how to fill the shoes of last year’s champions.
Ocean Springs enters the fall as the reigning Class 7A state champion after a hard-fought five-set win in last October’s title match at Mississippi College, avenging a loss to Lewisburg in the 2024 final. In Class 6A, Lake Cormorant made it look considerably easier, sweeping George County in straight sets to claim the crown. Both programs will be the measuring stick for the rest of their classifications this season.
The MHSAA State Championships are set to return to Mississippi College for a third straight year, a venue that’s quickly become the home of Mississippi volleyball every October. With region realignments already in place for the 2025-27 cycle, several programs will be battling through new-look regions for the first time this season — meaning the road to Mississippi College could look very different than it did a year ago.
