Head Coach TC Taylor speaks about team’s first scrimmage

Head Coach TC Taylor was pleased after the team’s first scrimmage on August 9th.  “It was just a good scrimmage overall,” Taylor said. “I thought it was well-coached, well-organized, so I’m just very excited about these next two weeks of work that we have to prepare for Hampton.”  Jackson State begins its quest for back to back National Championships August 30th in Jackson versus Hampton.

Coach Taylor was especially pleased with his offensive linemen.  D’Andre Townes-Blue is a preseason first team ALL-SWAC selection.  “Those guys are really playing a physical brand of football,” Taylor said.  Locking down the backup quarterback position has been a battle.  Jacobian Morgan is clearly QB1, QB2 is a competition between Parker Stofa, Ethan Terrell and Jared Lockhart.

Cornerback is another position that’s battling for positions on the depth chart. 2024 second-team All-Southland Conference player Levi Wyatt from McNeese State and Mississippi State transfer Khamauri Rogers highlight the transfer class of defensive backs, while Shamar Hawkins and KJ Chisholm lead the way for returners.“We’ve got some guys back there, some new faces over there,” Taylor said. “With the guys we lost, that’s going to be a great competition.
