Ole Miss picked up another big-time piece for the future on defense.
Four-star edge rusher Antwan Jackson out of White Station High School in Memphis has committed to the Rebels, choosing Ole Miss over Alabama and Missouri.
That is a strong win for Pete Golding and the Ole Miss staff.
Jackson is listed around 6-foot-6 and 240-plus pounds, and he looks like the type of long, athletic defender that can be a problem off the edge. He has the size to hold up against the run, but he also has enough speed and range to get after the quarterback.
That combination is what makes him interesting.
On film, Jackson has been used in a few different ways. He has lined up at defensive end, outside linebacker and even tight end. That tells you he is more than just a big body. He can move, he plays physical and he has shown he can make plays in different situations.
For Ole Miss, that versatility fits what Golding wants to do defensively.
The Rebels have continued to add players who can rush the passer, set the edge and create pressure without having to bring extra people. Jackson has the length to disrupt passing lanes and the athleticism to chase plays down from the backside.
Ole Miss also had to beat some real competition to get him.
Alabama and Missouri were both in the mix, so this was not one of those quiet commitments that happened without anybody paying attention. Anytime Ole Miss can go into Memphis and beat SEC programs for a highly regarded prospect, it matters.
Memphis has always been an important recruiting area for Ole Miss, and the Rebels continue to show they can win battles there.
Jackson gives Ole Miss another talented piece in its 2027 class, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Recruiting rankings will move around and there is still a long way to go before signing day, but the Rebels are putting together a group with size, speed and upside.
For now, Ole Miss has added a long, physical edge rusher from just up the road in Memphis.
And they beat Alabama and Missouri to do it.
